What is Safety & Respect Driving School's refund policy?
The deposit of $154 is nonrefundable and non-transferable to any other student or sibling.
What is the driver education process?
-
To begin the process of obtaining a driver's license, the student must first complete an approved 30-hour driver education class. This course covers the essential rules of the road and safe driving practices.
-
Once the student has finished the 30 classroom hours and paid all required fees, he/she can receive a signed MV3001 form from Safety & Respect. Students must be at least 15 years old to receive this form.
-
With the signed MV3001 form, the student will be eligible to take the Instruction Permit test at the DMV. Passing this test successfully will earn the student a permit to drive.
-
After obtaining the permit, the student must accumulate 50 hours of behind-the-wheel driving experience. Of these 50 hours, at least ten must be completed at night. The first drive time with a certified driving instructor must occur within the first 60 days after the MV3001 form is signed by Safety & Respect personnel.
-
It is required that the student hold their instructional permit for a minimum of six months. Additionally, there must be at least 21 days between the first and sixth driving lessons. If the student receives their permit at age 15, he/she must hold it for at least 12 months before he/she is eligible for a license.
-
Once the student has fulfilled the driving experience and permit requirements, he/she must pass a driving skills test. After passing the test, pay the required fees to the DMV to obtain the driver's license.
How do I pay for driver education?
You may pay the deposit, the full amount, or any amount equal to or greater than the required deposit online using a credit card. Alternatively, you may select the option to send or bring your payment directly to our Main Office. We accept payments in cash, by check, or by credit card, and all payment methods are treated equally.
If you qualify for the Wisconsin (WI) Driver Education Grant, please ensure you provide the DOT approval email. This documentation is necessary for us to submit your tuition information to the state on your behalf.
In the event of a credit card chargeback, the customer is responsible for any fees incurred as a result of the chargeback. Additionally, the customer will be responsible for the price difference resulting from the loss of any cash discount.
Online Driver Ed Class
What are the requirements for the online class?
The online classroom is open to students aged 14 years or older. The course must be completed within six months of the date the student gains access to the program. Students are permitted to be logged into the online course for a maximum of two hours per day. The program is structured to allow students to complete all the required coursework within 21 days.
How do I get access to the online class?
To start the online classroom course, it is required that a parent electronically sign the Contract for Services during registration. Additionally, the minimum deposit must be paid. Only after both steps have been completed will the enrollment process proceed.
Once the contract signature and deposit payment are received, an email will be sent to every address listed in the student's account. The subject line of this email will read "Online Class Access." This email is typically delivered within 24 to 48 business hours after both requirements are fulfilled.
The "Online Class Access" email contains a link to the online course. It also provides a username and password that students must use to begin the course. Please note that these login credentials are different from those used for the Safety & Respect account, so students should not attempt to use their previous usernames and passwords for access.
Students are allowed a maximum of six months to complete the online classroom course. This deadline is strictly enforced, and no exceptions will be made.
I took the online classroom only option. How do I get my MV3001 form to get a permit?
The MV3001 form is not provided by Safety & Respect for students enrolled in the online classroom-only option. Instead, this form is supplied directly by the behind-the-wheel vendor. Students should contact their respective behind-the-wheel vendor to receive the MV3001 form required for their course completion.
I received an email with a certificate of completion for online classroom. What do I do with it?
Students who choose to complete behind-the-wheel training with a vendor other than Safety & Respect are eligible to receive a certificate of completion. This certificate is issued via email upon successful completion of the online course requirements.
The certificate of completion serves as official proof that the student has fulfilled the state-mandated 30 hours of classroom instruction required for individuals under the age of 18.
Instructions for Students
- After completing the online course, check your email for the certificate of completion.
- Provide this certificate to your behind-the-wheel vendor.
- Ensure that the vendor receives the certificate as confirmation of your eligibility to participate in the driving portion of your training.
Behind-the-Wheel
When am I eligible for an instruction permit?
To qualify for an instruction permit, a student must meet the following criteria:
- The student must be at least 15 years old.
- The student must have successfully completed the required classroom course.
- All tuition fees must be paid in full.
Once these requirements have been fulfilled, Safety & Respect will provide the student or parent with a signed MV3001 form.
What documents do I need to take to the DMV for the instruction permit test?
- The applicant must provide a certified copy of their birth certificate. Please note that hospital birth certificates or baptismal certificates are not acceptable. To obtain a certified copy, visit the Register of Deeds or the City Health Office.
- The applicant must present a Social Security card or Social Security number, along with a second form of identification, such as a school ID.
- A signed MV3001 form, which Safety & Respect provides, is required. This form can be emailed to the student on or after the day they turn 15, but not earlier. The MV3001 form is time sensitive, so it should only be requested if the applicant plans to visit the DMV within one week.
- Real ID Documentation: The applicant must provide two forms of identification that list the student's name and address for the Real ID process, such as a bank statement, school transcript, or a fishing/hunting license.
- A person willing to provide sponsorship or consent, typically a parent or guardian, must be present. This individual will take financial responsibility for the teen applicant.
- The required DMV application fee is $35.00.
I have scheduled a drive time, but I need to cancel it. What do I do?
Log in to your student portal and choose to cancel the drive time. Cancellations must be done via your student portal. Be sure to review the cancellation policy when canceling future drive times.
Can I still do my drive time if I do not have my valid permit with me?
No! It is against the law for any person to drive a vehicle without their Valid Instruction Permit in their possession at and for every driving appointment. We cannot have any student in our Safety & Respect vehicles without their valid permit. A picture of the permit will NOT suffice. This requirement is also noted on your signed contract, signed Parent Information form, text and email appointment reminders, and explained when provided with a signed MV form. There is no exception to this rule per state statutes.
Can I cancel my drive time over the phone?
Unfortunately, we are no longer able to take cancellations over the phone. All cancellations can be made using your login information, just as you would when scheduling driving appointments. If you have a unique situation, the best method is to cancel the appointment via the student account, then reach us is via email.
If my teen cancels a drive time late or doesn't show up for the appointment, why do I get charged?
Drive times are scheduled so each student can receive credit for both the driving hour and observation hour. When your teen does not show up for the appointment or chooses to cancel at the last minute, the other student no longer has a student to observe. The student who chose to attend their appointment now has to reschedule that portion of the drive time because your teen did not show up.
If the weather is bad, do you cancel driving lessons?
We usually wait to see exactly what the weather conditions will be for your drive time before deciding to cancel. While the safety of our students is our top priority, we will drive in snow and rain, as it is essential for beginning drivers to be exposed to various driving environments. Should it be necessary to cancel driving lessons, we will contact all affected students as soon as possible.
